Consciousness: Uncontested Space | Mishel McMahon | Webinar

The Topic

In this webinar, Mishel will lead a conversation on how consciousness remains an uncontested space. Beyond Western European ways of knowing, at a philosophical level there are shared views of reality. Relational ontology and connected key concepts demonstrate that despite the dominant Western systems of thought, earth also holds a roar from relational peoples, as they declare their ways of knowing in a world experiencing environmental loss and a lack of humanity to each other. These people groups position humans, nature and the spirit world as equal stakeholders in knowledge construction. However, the sociological lens will first highlight Western European hierarchical thought, to understand how the Western mind became the apex entity.

The Agenda

In the first half of the webinar, Mishel will make her presentation and facilitate initial responses.

In the second half, we'll move into a reflection-application session:

- 'Composting': experienced peers work the material in small groups to sprout new ideas;

- 'Weaving': attendees gather to collectively reflect and question, weaving our experiences together;

- Discuss how we will apply learnings to our personal practice in Reflection Application Pairs (RAPs).
