In this Eco-Leadership webinar, Christine Owen and Fiona Martin invite us to explore leadership in times of crisis.

This webinar shows how the Emergency Services exist at the forefront of turbulence, disruption, and change; and how examination of Emergency Services Leadership can provide insight into a future that faces many organisations.

It intertwines the narrative of the role the community and wider networks play in leadership expectations with theories that contribute to a dependency culture.

We explore the question of when organisations need to move from leading based on ‘known’ factors to leading into the unknown, where does responsibility lie and how is it taken up?

The Agenda

In the first half of the webinar, Christine and Fiona deliver the main seminar.

In the second half, we'll move into a reflection-application session:

- 'Composting': experienced peers work the material in small groups to sprout new ideas;
- 'Weaving': attendees gather to collectively reflect and question, weaving our experiences together;
- Discuss how we will apply learnings to our personal practice in Reflection Application Pairs (RAPs).

The Speakers

Christine Owen’s career history spans engagement in academia and industry to help people and organisations engaged in safety critical work to inquire into, learn from and, if needed, change their work practices. Christine has worked with safety critical organisations for over 25 years, including the aviation field, emergency medicine, the fire and emergency services industry and public safety.

Christine researches and facilitates professional development in the areas of human factors and organisational culture; decision making under pressure; debriefing; and leadership and adversity, as well as coaching and mentoring. She has been engaged by industry in a number of practitioner reviews and evaluations of major emergency events. Christine is passionate about supporting organisations to utilise research outcomes and establish evidence-informed practice. She has over 100 publications and has been cited in over 800 peer review publications.

Fiona Martin is an organisational consultant and coach to industry and public service organizations, an Associate Researcher with NIODA, and has published papers in scholarly journals. She brings practical experience to consulting and coaching having held senior leadership roles that have been responsible for innovation and change in private enterprise, government, emergency management, and education. Fiona holds a Master in Leadership and Management (Organisational Dynamics).
