In this Eco-Leadership webinar, Leslie Goldenberg will introduce Jaques Lacan's psychoanalytic theory like lack, gaps, and desire into practical approaches for therapists, coaches, and leaders.
Following a brief introduction to Lacan and his insights on the nature of human subjectivity, this session will focus on ways of applying two key elements of the Lacanian field:
Attending to the unique patterns in a client’s speech and intervening as a coach through the use of language;
Exploring the nature of desire versus demand, and the associated concept of lack, and enabling clients to take greater responsibility for their desire.
While the Lacanian oeuvre is vast and has a justifiable reputation for being theoretically dense and difficult to understand, the approach in this session will distill a few kernels for practical application, aiming to offer something useful even for those with no prior exposure to Lacan.
The Agenda
In the first half of the webinar, Leslie will deliver the main seminar.
In the second half, we'll move into a reflection-application session:
- 'Composting': experienced peers work the material in small groups to sprout new ideas;
- 'Weaving': attendees gather to collectively reflect and question, weaving our experiences together;
- Discuss how we will apply learnings to our personal practice in Reflection Application Pairs (RAPs).
The Speaker
Leslie Goldenberg is a coach specializing in leadership transitions. Over the past several years, her work has increasingly come to address the unconscious at work in organizational life. Leslie earned her M.A. from UCLA and B.A. from UC Berkeley and is currently a student at the Lacanian School of Psychoanalysis of San Francisco. She is an Analytic Network Coach, holds a PCC credential from the International Coach Federation, and a Master Coach certification from the Hudson Institute of Coaching. She is also an award-winning ceramic artist. A mom of three nearly grown kids, Leslie lives in Los Angeles with her husband of 32 years.
